As you enter the exhibition, the first artwork you’ll see will be Ernest T.’s poem, a work of art that invites the audience to ponder on the future of creation in a society that saturated with image since the great modern utopias failed. Working as a quoting system, this gives the artist the opportunity to overcome the world’s disenchantment. Using the traditional media that are sculpture and painting, this first stage shows how to educate the eye that creates icons and masterpieces.
Whilst Henri Matisse pays tribute to the Italian 17th century as he copies Annibal Carracci’s The Hunt, Richard Fauguet’s silhouettes remind the audience of Jeff Koons’s sculptures, of Marin Kippenberger, or Edgar Degas. Between hommage and insolence, this re-reading of the history of art, from Antiquity to Picasso, lead us to a mise en abyme. This questions the unicity of the artworks.
The Mona Lisa, after it was photographed by Robert Doisneau, became a pop icon through Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s work.
