On the occasion of the Collector exhibition, CNAP shows a program of public commissioned works, to promote temporary, transient pieces, devised according to a specific artistic context. This desire belongs to a wider policy that aims to support artists with experimentation, active participation to artistic life and dialogue between artists and institutions, generating brand new projects.

Three of these commissioned artworks will be presented at the Tripostal: Code de nuit by Cécile Paris, Tapis Rouge 3 (Photo Call ‘Collector’) by Matthieu Laurette, and the latest computing project by Pierre Giner, CNAPN, projet pour un générateur de Collection.

Code de Nuit

The Code de nuit project aims to answer the question: what is a night club when it becomes a work of art? As soon as 2010, Cécile Paris started a reflection on the world of the night. While she was in residence at the CENTQUATRE, a Parisian arts centre, she got together several members of the Parisian night life, from the DJ to the philosopher and the dancer. The presentation turns out to be the activation of her code with a series of concerts and DJ sets inside the Tripostal, made to become a night life landmark for a few outlandish evenings. The stage of this ‘theatre’ will be accessible during the day, keeping traces of the previous night through videos.

Tapis Rouge 3

The second project, Tapis Rouge 3 (Photo Call ‘Collector’) creates another, shorter relationship with time. Matthieu Laurette will take photos of the patrons during the vernissage of the exhibition and will make a catalogue with all the photos. In the manner of a model photo shoot, visitors will become stars as they are photographed in front of sponsorship billboards.

CNAP^N

Projet pour un générateur de Collection by Pierre Giner will be installed in one of the Tripostal rooms. Pierre Giner has developed a virtual CNAP using new ways to organise and promote exhibitions, as well as new ways to organise artist residences, publishing and commissioning. Using technology as well as intelligence from IT researching, Pierre Giner’s project presents itself as some sort of virtual reality, a crossroads between the tool and the video game.

Palais des Beaux-Arts (Lille)

For the lille3000 « Collector » exhibition, Palais des Beaux-Arts teams up with CNAP to organise 4 CABARET COLLECTOR night, between concert and performance.
Dj set, video concert, small form theatre and poetry, the guest artists will explore, in an experimental invention way – « in progress », the never heard of form : « CABARET COLLECTOR ».

‘Pour un cinéma performatif’ presents artworks where video art and performance meet, continuing the reflexion started with Life is a killer at the Tripostal. This programme, showed at the LaM on the 20th of October 2011, and commissioned by both the museum and CNAP teams, will be composed of artworks which build performance-portraits. The artists blend the arts and create a digital space of experiments. Autobiography, quoting of the self... all these keep coming back in these video directors, such as in Me, Myself and I by Lothar Hempel, where the artist lip-syncs and is filmed as in a musical videoclip. With Ziad Antar, Eleanor Antin, Guy Ben-Ner, Laetitia Bénat, Charley Case, Brice Dellsperger, Lothar Hempel, Teun Hocks, Kelly Lamb, Made in Eric, Christian Marclay, Deimantas Narkevicius, Alexandre Périgot, Chloé Piene and Claudia Triozzi. During Collector, LaM will display new pieces, especially pieces from CNAP. Listen to your eyes, a neon piece by the Italian artist Maurizio Nannucci, will welcome the visitor from the LaM’s front wall.
