Lille 2004, European Capital of Culture

In 2004, Lille became European Capital of Culture. From the opening celebration on 6 Decembre 2003, which welcomed more than 750 000 visitors, until the closing of the Tri Postal, the Lille 2004 venue, on 28 November 2004, Lille 2004 proposed no less than 2,500 events: performances, exhibitions, festivities, metamorphoses...

Throughout the year, the overall project enjoyed the wide participation of local people and was reflected in events of the highest artistic quality. Moreover, these projects took place in 193 cities, towns and villages of the entire Nord-Pas de Calais region and Belgium - a first for a European Capital of Culture.

9 millions visitors, 17 800 Ambassadors of Lille 2004 volunteered to help in the preparation of events, a 30 % increase in tourist visits, 12 maisons Folie, new cultural infrastructures...

After Lille, we will have to wait until 2013 : Marseille is nominated as European Capital of Culture.

Bombaysers de Lille

Effervescence, magnificence, celebrations and debates, exhibitions and shows, iconoclastic and traditional artists, cinema, dance, literature, theatre: India and visions of the future, at the crossroads of art and modernity, have been invited to Lille this autumn 2006 during Bombaysers de Lille.

From Bombay to Chandigarh via London, from innovative textiles to spirituality, lille3000 examines a wide range of themes: the economy and new technologies, the art of city living and building the city of tomorrow, spirituality, and more generally issues of society and civilisation.

Futurotextiles in Istanbul

After its successful spell in 2006 during lille3000 at Le Tri Postal in Lille, the Futurotextiles exhibition has visited Istanbul for Design Week from 4 to 10 September 2007.

From the Seventies to the present day!


From 16 October 2007 to 1 January 2008 at the Tri Postal in Lille, lille3000 presented an exhibition called “Passage du Temps” (Passage of Time) thanks to works from the François Pinault Foundation Collection for the first time in France.

Zhu Yi ! Chinese contemporary photography

Following its showing in Vitoria and Barcelona in Spain, lille3000 and the City of Lille is hosting "ZHÙ YÌ, CHINESE CONTEMPORY PHOTOGRAPHY" in The Tri Postal at Lille, in collaboration with Artium Contemporary Art Centre of Vitoria and Palau de La Virreina exposicions of Barcelona.

Futurotextiel 08

Following the successful Futurotextiles 06 exhibition in Lille, the old NMBS railway hangar in Kortrijk (Magdalenastraat) is now to be the venue for FUTUROTEXTIEL 08 - organised by Designregio Kortrijk and lille3000, from 9 October through 7 December 2008.

Traffic Jam- Pascale Marthine Tayou

The contemporary artist of Cameroonian origin Pascale Marthine Tayou has been invited by lille3000 to present a monumental exhibition.

Tayou belongs to the generation of African artists who are redefining postcolonial culture and combining the experiences of their origins with those of Europe where they now live.

Pavillon Lille Europe

At the Exposition Universelle de Shanghai 2010, Lille Metropole opened an office in the heart of the city, from May 1 to July 15, 2010: Pavilion Lille Europe in collaboration with the Hong Miao Gallery, located in a ancient Taoist temple on Nanjing Road.
