RÉGION NORD-PAS DE CALAIS

I WEEK – International week in Milan

For this 7th Edition of “I Week”, the Nord-Pas de Calais will take up residence in the Palazzo delle Stelline in Milan from June 18 to 24 in the heart of the Textifood exhibition. The technology clusters Aquimer, Agroe, Clubtex/Uptex and Euratechnologie, along with regional agri-food companies, will be on site in Milan, to promote the excellence of the agri-food sector in the large region of the Nord-Pas de Calais/Picardy, showcasing it to companies from Italy and all over the world for this World Expo on the theme of “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. The programme of events will be centered on the following themes: food safety and autonomy, sustainable resource management, and biosourcing.

MEL

Métropole Européenne de Lille

The Textifood exhibition will be an opportunity for the Métropole Européenne de Lille and the Région Nord-Pas de Calais to present their excellence in the field of technical textiles. With the opening of the European Centre for Innovative Textiles in 2012, the UP-tex technology cluster, their dynamic ecosystem and the many companies operating in their territory, the Métropole Européenne de Lille and the Région Nord-Pas de Calais remain true to their long textile tradition, now turning to innovative textiles. MEL and the Region will also accompany a delegation from technology clusters and companies from the region active in the agri-food, design, textile and innovative materials sectors. The goal is to have these regional economic stakeholders showcase their products and know-how internationally.

Textifood, the most recent of the Futurotextiles exhibitions, will present fibres made from plant or animal sources, whose non-edible by-products are used to create textiles.

Textifood is a response to the theme set for Expo 2015 in Milan “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. The exhibition was designed by lille3000 for the France/Lille Europe Pavilion, at the Palazzo delle Stelline, Institut Français Milano, from the 1st of May to the 14th of July 2015.

In the frame of Renaissance, lille3000 and the Natural History Museum showcase the range of synergies possible between food production and textiles.

These fibres come from all continents. They are studied worldwide by researchers to find solutions for the needs of an increasingly responsible world.

To illustrate the qualities of the frequently little-known fabrics made from these fibres, lille3000 has called on artists, designers and stylists aware of the need for an intelligent and sustainable use of the planet’s resources to come up with creations that incorporate fibres often derived from the by-products of crop production.

Designers such as Coralie Marabelle, Christine Phung, Design Percept, L’Herbe Rouge, A+ZDesign®, Egide Paris, Az&mut or Manufacture des Rigoles, have incorporated the research of textile companies based on plant chemistry and biomass processing.

Others, including Eric Raisina Em Riem, Ditta Sandico, Kristian Von Forselles, the House of Dognin and Nina Gautier, have worked with natural fibres know for centuries but are all but forgotten nowadays.

Whereas some researchers working in their laboratories, such as Donna Franklin & Gary Cass, Jonas Edvard, Qmilk or Orange Fiber, have created innovative and entirely visionary materials.

INSTALLATIONS

MEERT
TASTING SPACE

Meert

After Shanghai, Meert is setting course for Milan in its luxury caravan. Developed by architects Jérôme de Alzua and Eric Buys, the project is based on recycling an old Sterckeman caravan, the “Serpolette” model from 1965 to be exact, into a contemporary, glittering culinary unit. The transformation, carried out by the Artom workshop, created a delicate, luminous frame, applied in patterns over the body of the Caravane Chic.
The glittering effect along with the subtle play of light of varying geometries will exalt the relationship between this installation and the cloister of the Palazzo delle Stelline and its visitors.
This light will interact with its environment, creating a visual dialogue with visitors, inciting them to respond. Transformed into small mobile kitchen, the Caravan Chic will offer chef Maxime Schelstraete a platform to demonstrate his expertise to the Milanese by serving up Lille-style, “street chic” cuisine.

STRATUS, 2015 - Curtain of scented mist

Francis Kurkdjian PARFUMS

For 20 years, Francis Kurkdjian has sublimated the bounties of nature by weaving them into perfumes. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, he has imagined a floral sfumato for the cloister of the Palazzo delle Stelline: this vaporous atmosphere is an invitation to drift into a mist inspired by the scents of the many plants featured in Textifood.

SHANGHAI 2010

1 May to 31 October 2015

Pavillon lille SHANGHAI 2010

On the occasion of Shanghai 2010, Lille Métropole opened a representative office in the centre of the city. The Lille Europe Pavilion was one of five French pavilions at the Universal Exhibition. For three months, the pavilion was a place of convivial encounters, showcasing the culture, food, artists, business innovation and dynamism of Lille Métropole in the spirit of the major events it is so good at producing such as Lille 2004 European Capital of Culture or lille3000.

Encompassing the mobile Futurotextiles exhibition, various artistic installations and a Maison Meert tasting bar, the pavilion served as a meeting point for natives of the Nord region who have settled in China, and as an original space in which to welcome the press and the Chinese or international public visiting the Universal Exhibition.

Resolutely oriented towards demonstrating the economic vitality of Lille and its region, the Lille Europe Pavilion remains a living showcase for the creativity of our companies and the excellence of our industrial clusters.
